"KEEP ROHTANG PASS CLEAN -VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED"

PROJECT: YHAI has proposed a number of steps. One of the steps is tosend volunteers to Rohtang Pass to sensitize the general public. We have decided to send 5 batches of volunteers to Rohtang Pass who will sensitize the tourists as well as local persons about the problems and request them to " Rohtang Pass Clean" Details of our proposed intervention is enclosed. Each batch will consist of 25-30 volunteers. You are, therefore, requested to send as many volunteers as possible for this very special drive and thereby contribute to noble cause of keeping environment clean.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE : Volunteers for each group shall consist of YHAI members from different states in order of preference: Camp leaders, Co Directors, Field Directors of National and State level expedition of YHAI. Member of the National Council/Executive, Office Bearers of the State Branches and Units of YHAI and participants of National level trekking expeditions of YHAI.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION :Preferred age group 20 Years to 50 Years The Volunteer should be in excellent physical and medical fitness. The volunteers must have taste for adventure and willingness to serveas volunteer in rough and tough terrain. The volunteers should be able to withhold the stress and strain in such high altitude at Rohtang Pass which has a height of 13051 feet for a long duration of 7 days. Right of selection of volunteers is reserved with Youth HostelsAssociation of India.
REPORTING DATES :The Volunteers has to report at the base campSeobagh on the first day of the each batch they have selected or have been nominated:

1st Batch: 5th May 09 to 14th May 2009
2nd Batch: 11th May 09 to 20th May 2009
3rd Batch: 17th May 09 to 26th May 2009
4th Batch: 23rd May 09 to 01st Jun 2009
5th Batch: 29th May 09 to 07th Jun 2009
Registration of the volunteers to be made as per aforesaid criteria throughYHAI State Branch/Units. Each group shall consist of volunteer from different states. As the days are limited, it is requested to confirm the participation over E-mail to: info@yhaindia.org

DURATION :The Programme begins on 5th May 2009 with Youth Hostel Seobagh as Base Camp. From 5th May to 29th May 2009 group of volunteers will report at the base camp. Volunteers can report on any of the above dates after getting their seats confirmed. The duration of the camp for each groupof volunteers is 9 Nights and 10 Days. Reporting before lunch on first dayand departure after breakfast on 10th day.

WHERE TO REPORT: Youth Hostel Seobagh (Tel No: 1902-230113) is 3 kmsfrom Kullu on the left bank of meandering river Beas near Jairu MineralWater Plant. It is linked by road via RAM SILA orchards and terraced fieldsand commands a panoramic view of surrounding mountains. Regular bus services are available for Kullu from Delhi, Chandigarh & Punjab, Nearest Railway Station is Chandigarh (310 kms) & Nearest Airport is Bhuntar (11 kms).
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING : Woolen jackets, Woolen & cotton cloths,walking shoes, raincoats, hand gloves, woolen muffler or monkey caps, bedsheet, sun glass, woolen socks, torch with spare batteries, lunch box, waterbottle, steel mugs, plate, spoon, cold cream, toilet paper, medicine whichyou normally use at home.
SCHEDULE :
DAY 1 Report at Base Camp Youth Hostel Seobagh (Kullu)
DAY 2 Acclimatization & Orientation
DAY 3 Shifting of volunteers to MARHI(3320 mtr)
DAY 4 to DAY 9 MARHI to ROHTANG PASS and back
DAY 10 Group breaks after breakfast from SeobaghNo participation fees

"HEIGHT OF ADVENTURE" NATIONAL MOTOR BIKE EXPEDITION EVENT:
EVENT:100 Motor Cyclists will undertake about 2500 km journey starting from New Delhi to Chandigarh,Kullu-Manali, Leh & Khardungla Pass covering the most challenging mountain route via Rohtang Pass (13,051 ft.) (3978mtr.), Bara Lacha Pass (16,040 ft.) (4890 mtr), Lachung La Pass ( 16,600 ft.) (5059 mtr.) and Tanglang La Pass ( 17,582 ft) (5359 mtr.) and finally to world’s highest Motorable road reaching Khardungla Pass (5602 mtr, 18380 ft.). They will return via Kargil, Drass through Zozila Pass (3528 mt, 11575 ft ), Srinagar, Jammu & Ludhiana, Delhi.
ROUTE: Delhi-Panipat-Ambala-Chandigarh-Kullu-Manali -Tandi- Sarchu – Upshi- Leh- Khardungla-Leh--Kargil-Drass –ZozilaPass -Srinagar -Jammu- Ludhiana- Karnal- Delhi. The actual route may change depending upon geographical, social and environmental conditions.
Duration: 17 days
Participants will report at Base Camp, International Youth Hostel, New Delhi on 24th August 2009. After expedition, they will leave from New Delhi on 09th September 2009.
Participation Fee: Rs. 9,500/- per participant (USD 225 for foreign national) The actual cost of expedition will be much higher. This is highly discounted/subsidized fee as this is a special event to celebrate Centenary Celebration of Youth Hostelling International and 60th Anniversary of YHA of India. The fee is payable immediately on acceptance of application.
"HEIGHT OF ADVENTURE" NATIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKING EXPEDITION EVENT:
100 mountain bikers will undertake about 600 kms of cycling through world’s most hazardous and difficult terrain on Mountain Bikes starting from 19th August, 09. They will cover this distance in 17 days climbing Rohtang Pass (13,051 ft.) (3978mtr.), Bara Lacha Pass (16,040 ft.) (4890 mtr), Lachung La Pass ( 16,600 ft. ) (5059 mtr.) and Tanglang La Pass ( 17,582 ft.) (5359 mtr.) and finally to world’s highest Motorable Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft.)(5602 mtr).
Duration: 17 days.
ROUTE: Kullu-Manali - Solang Nala-Marhi-Rohtang Pass-Sishu-Jispa-Zing Zing Bar-Sarchu-Whisky Nala-Pang- Debring-Rumtse-Choglamsar-Leh - South Pullu - Khardungla Pass-Leh
