    • NATIONAL FAMILY ADVENTURE CAMPING : 2013
    • Youth Hostels Association of India has been organizing People from the poles apart cultures and regions participate in our budgeted trekking adventures. A large number these programs. As a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of YHAI National Trekking camping Program for the families of our volunteer camp leaders and other success of this adventure and, on the request of our members we repeated this 2012. This year again, we are organizing the Kullu-Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
    • Who can Participate: Any YHAI member can participate on first come first serve bases. A family consists of husband, wife and two children the children between age 10 to 12 years must be attached with application forms or must be submitted at the time of reporting at the Base Camp. A single person does not constitute a family and shall not be registered for the camp. Parent of very small children should arrange for their bottle feed.
    • Participation Fee : Participation fee is Rs.3800/- for a family consisting of husband, wife and two children up to the age of 12 years. The fee shall remain the same even if no children accompany. Rs. 900/ two children, and children above 12 years, per additional family member.
    • Reporting dates : Arrangement has been made to accommodate 50 families on each of the following dates : 24th April, 29th April, 04th May, 09th May 14th May, 19th May 08th June, 24th May 29th May 03rd June
    • Duration : The program begins on 24th April 2013 at the Youth Hostel- Seobagh, Manali, Himachal Pradesh, as base camp. Family can report at the base camp on any of the above mentioned dates, after getting your seats confirmed. The duration of the camp for each family is 4 nights and 5 days. Reporting is before lunch on the 1st day and departure after breakfast on the 5th day. Extra stay is subjected to the availability of accommodation, on payment.
    • Where to Report : Youth Hostel- Seobagh is 3kms from Kullu and on the left of the banks of meandering river Beas, near Jairu Mineral Water plant. It is linked by road via Ram Shila & Gamon Bridge, and commands a panoramic view of surrounding mountains. Regular bus services are available for Kullu from Delhi, Chandigarh & Punjab. The nearest Railway Stations are Ambala & Chandigarh & the nearest Airport is Bhuntar.
    • Schedule : During the stay at the camp, campers may visit Manali (40k) Kullu (3kms), Manikaran hot water spring (53kms), snow point beyond Manali and enroute Rohtang Pass. Buses are available from Seobagh Youth Hostel. All sightseeing shall be at your own cost. Our volunteers may help you in planning your
    • What you should bring : Woolens, cotton clothes, walking shoes, raincoat, cold cream/Vaseline, personal first aid kit, towel, sheets, lunch box (for packed lunch) and medicines that you normally use at home.

    • Hello Students,
    • Combine adventure with education camp for 8 days in the beautiful Kullu valley-the abode of Gods in Himachal Pradesh, is being organized for you by the Youth Hostels Association of India. The nature study camp includes bird-watching, star gazing,(identifying satellites) rock climbing,trekking and first aid training. You may also photograph the panoramic views of the surrounding areas. Avail this opportunity of staying in the camp site amidst majestic snow peaks of Himalayas and meet the youngsters from various parts of the country. At night, sit around the camp fire after dinner for a cultural get together, with a sense of love for nature and outdoor activity,aiming at promoting national integration.
    • Participation fee : Participation fee is Rs.2450/- for a package of 8 enjoyable days in the pollution free atmosphere of the Himalayas. This includes nutritious vegetarian food, accommodation, equipments, training, trek to snow line,forest entry fee and insurance.     • Eligibility : The program is open to students of age group between 10 -15 yrs. Only junior members are allowed to participate. Overage/ underage students shall not be considered in any case.
    • Duration : The program begins on the 29th April at the Youth Hostel Dobhi as a base camp. Each day from 29th April to 31st May 2013 a group of 50 students will be received at the base camp. You can report on any of these dates after getting your seats confirmed. The duration of the camp for group group is 7nights and 8 days. Reporting before lunch on 1st day and departure after breakfast on 8th day extra stay will be subject to availability of accommodation on payments basis.

  • From the last 42 years Youth Hostels Association of India is organizing National Himalayan Trekking Expeditions in the heart of Himalayas.     • SAR Pass Trail offers an opportunity to enjoy the exquisite beauty of the Parvati valley with Kasol, Tila Lotni, Biskeri and Manikaran as its beauty spots. Kasol is famous for its cool and pleasant climate and tall pine trees. Tila Lotni can literally be called the little ICE LAND, where one can experience the challenges of nature in full fury, during spine chilling cold nights. The splendid views of snowy peaks offer an endless feast to the eyes. Biskeri fascinates the trekkers with its sweet grasses, wild flowers and a variety of birds.     • Beaches: The long stretch of Keralas coastline of about 900 km with its string of many ports has played a decisive role in shaping the history of Kerala. Varkala : This town 51 Km. north of Trivandrum, is known for a beautiful beach and a Vishnu shrine dedicated to lord Janardhana. Varkala is a beautiful sea side resort with mineral water springs. The sea shore is called papanasam. The Sivagiri mutt is situated at an elevation, 3km east of the Janardhana temple. This was built in 1904 by the great reformist Sree Narayana Guru.

    • The long coastal belt of Odisha offers some of the finest white sand beaches in the world. Virginal and unspoilt, it is not surprising that they are becoming a regular haunt for avid beach combers and sea worshippers. Trekkers can enjoy the beauty of the coastal region in a trekking programme devised for the area between Puri and Satapada that covers interesting terrain, Sand dunes, aqueous swamps and dense casuarinas forests add variety and a piquant novelty to the trek. The surrounding countryside is rich with flora and fauna and the sighting of black-buck or the giant sea turtles or the playful Irrawaddy Dolphins cavorting in the Chilika Lake give the entire experience a delightful fillip.
    • Participation Fee : The participation fee has been fixed at Rs. 2,800/-per YHAI Member (Non member Rs. 2,950/-). This will cover your stay, Simple Nutritious vegetarian food, guidance, insurance and equipment. Participants will bear the travel expenses to Base camp and back to their homes.

    • About Chilika : It is the largest brackish water lagoon in Asia with estuarine character and a welcoming wintering ground for millions of migratory avifauna. About 52 number of rivers and rivulets drain into the Lake. It has a mouth linked with sea on the eastern side. The area of the lagoon varies between 1165 and 906 Sq. km. during mansoon and summer respectively. Based on its highly productive ecosystem, rich biodiversity and socio-economic importance, Chilka was designated a Ramsar site in 1981, under the Convention of Wetland of International Importance. It has rare, threatened and endangered species, including the limbless skink and Irrawaddy Dolphin.
    • How to Reach the Base-Camp: The base camp will be at Youth Hostel, PURI. It is a famous pilgrimage place, otherwise known as Lord Jagannath Dham. It is well connected by Trains and Road from every part of India. Nearest Airport is at BHUBANESWAR, 60km. from PURI.     • KEEP KERALA BEACHES CLEAN
    • PROJECT : During all last few years, we have seen Kerala Beaches getting dirtier and polluted as thousands of tourists visit Kerala Beaches every day in the tourist season..They use their own cars, taxis and other vehicles to go to the beaches to enjoy sea, surfs and allied sports. Due to our long association with this region, we feel concerned about the deteriorating environment and pollution at such an important pass. You are, therefore, requested to send application of volunteers as early as possible for this very special drive and thereby contribute to noble cause of keeping environment clean.
    • WHO CAN PARTICIPATE : Volunteers for each group shall consist of YHAI members from different states in order of preference: Camp leaders, Co Directors, Field Directors, Participants of National/State level Expedition. The application should be forwarded by the respective State Branches.
    • CRITERIA FOR SELECTION :Preferred age group – 20 Years to 50 Years , The Volunteer should be in excellent physical and medical fitness duly certified by a Registered Doctor. The volunteers must have taste for adventure and willingness to serve as volunteer in rough and tough terrain. ,The volunteers should be able to withhold the stress and strain in such conditions feet for a long duration of 5 days., Right of selection of volunteers is reserved with Youth Hostels Association of India, New Delhi
    • REPORTING DATES : The Volunteers have to report at the base camp on the first day of the each batch they have selected or have been nominated:
    • 1st Group report at Trivandrum on 18/10/2012
    • 2nd Group report at Ernakulam on 22/10/2012
    • 3rd Group report at Tirur on 24/10/2012
    • Registration of the volunteers to be made as per aforesaid criteria through YHAI State Branches; each group shall consist of volunteer from different states. Final Selection will be made by the National Office.
    • DURATION : The Programme begins on 18th Oct 2012, at Kovalam Beach. Volunteers have to report at the base camp as per their selection as confirmed by the YHAI. The duration of the camp for each group of volunteers is 5 Days and Nights and departure after breakfast on 6th day.
    • WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING : Cotton cloths, walking shoes, raincoats, hand gloves, bed sheet, sun glass, torch with spare batteries, lunch box, water bottle, steel mugs, plate, spoon, cold cream, toilet paper, Vaseline/Anti-sunburn cream, medicine which you normally use at home.
    • No participation fees. Volunteers have to bear only the traveling expenses to and fro concerned beach to their respective hometown.
    • Volunteers shall be awarded with Certificate for their Volunteer work ON COMPLETION.

    The participants will enjoy a splendid panorama of hills, sandy beaches, refreshing waterfalls, beautiful landscapes, breath taking groves of palm tress, sun kissed waterways, Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Dudhsagar falls. The hilly trek of Western Ghats provides trekking trails as steep and difficult as the Himalayan climbs. The trekking route will therefore, offer the same thrills and excitement as in any mountain with some additional attractions like bus ride, and rail journey in the western ghats
    Fees :- Rs.2800/- per participant (YHAI membership compulsory) The fees will cover stay in tented accommodation, simple nutritious vegetarian meals, expert guidance, equipment and insurance.     YHAI National Goa Biking Expedition : from 12th Dec.2012 to 5th Jan. 2013
    The biking trail travels from the Arabian Sea coast to Netravali village in the magnificent Sahyadri Western Ghats, which are recognized as the top 10 biodiversity spots of the world. The journey moves across the forests and the ecologically devastated mining belt in Sanguem, to the splendid Dudhsagar Waterfalls. The voyage winds its way from the Bondla wildlife sanctuary to the calm and peaceful banks along the River Mandovi. It also visits the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Goa. Thus the trail encompasses the entire range of all what Goa has to offer historically and naturally. From the coastline to the midlands to the mountain ranges is a huge experience of a varied land, a rich heritage and an interesting diversity of people who are proud of their land, culture and tradition.
    Dates : The arrangement has been made to accommodate 20 bikers per group on following dates : 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 Dec-12, 1, 3 and 5 Jan 2013. Duration of expedition will be 8 days.

    Dates: The arrangement has been made to accommodate 40 families at base camp on following dates 12 ,17, 22,27 Dec 2012 &1,6 Jan, 2013.
    Duration of the camp for each family is 4 nights and 5 days
    How to Participate:-The members desirous of joining the programme may apply on a prescribed Registration Form. Form should be sent along with draft of participation fee. Each family shall report at the Base camp on the allotted reporting date. Extra Days stay will be subject to availability of accommodation and charge of Rs. 900/- per day.
    How to reach Base Camp: - The base camp is located at Sports Authority Ground, Near Miramar Beach, Panaji Goa. The nearest railway stations are Thivim (25Kms), Karmali (12 km) and Margao (33km) State bus service is available. Direct bus service is also available from Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore & Mangalore. Direct trains are available from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and major cities of India.
    Accommodation: - One tent at base camp shall be given to each family. Mattress, 2 pillow & blankets shall be provided

    YHAI National Goa Sailing Expedition : 2012
    The sailors will visit uninhabited islands that they can explore, see graceful dolphins and dynamic barracuda in their natural habitat, do snorkeling to see colourful fish, sea cucumbers, and the wonders of the sea bed, sail in the night and learn navigation by the stars and lighthouses, camp out on a remote beach that can be approached only by sea, do rock climbing and rappelling on a sea cliff, learn angling to catch fish, walk along Goa's longest beach, have a bath in the waters of a fresh water spring just meters away from the sea, explore the ramparts of an medieval sea fort, and learn the rudiments of sailing using just the power of the wind.
    The participants will visit Grande Island, do snorkeling, sail by night to the spectacular Butterfly Beach, which can only be approached by the sea. Navigate by lighthouses and stars. Do rock climbing and rappelling on the seaside cliffs, angling, barbeque and campfire in the night. Watch rare sea birds bathe in the fresh water spring which is just meters from the sea.
    Dates : -The reporting dates are 12,18,24,30 Dec 2012 and 5 Jan 2013.
    Duration of Sail will be 6 days.

    • A Trekking Expedition at Valley of Flower , Hemkund Saheb, Shri Badrinath & Vashudhara Fall in Garhwal Himalaya : After successfuly completion of six years Valley of Flower trekking expedition, YHAI UP State Branch gives you another opportunity to explore the Valley of Flower  and enjoy the mist of Vasudhara Fall in Garhwal Himalaya.
    • Fees :- Rs.5800/- per participant (YHAI membership compulsory) The fees will cover stay in tented accommodation, simple nutritious vegetarian meals, expert guidance, equipment and insurance. Participants will bear to and fro travel expenses from their home to the base camp.

    • What you should bring :- Rucksack (if you have one) cotton shirts, cotton pants, sun cap, Hunter shoes, 2 pairs of cotton socks, torch, water bottle, lunch box, enameled or steel mug or tumbler, plate, spoon, pen-knife, needle, thread, goggles, cold cream or Vaseline, soap, toilet paper, towel, medicines (which you normally use at home) camera optional.
    • PROGRAMME SCHEDULE & ROUTE : From 28.07.2012 to 11.08.2012.
    • DAY 1 : Report at base camp Rishikesh before 4.00PM.
    • DAY 2 : Rishikesh to Joshimath 275 Km by Bus ( Full Day)
    • DAY 3 : Orientation walk and Visit to Auli. 
    • DAY 4 : Joshimath to Govindghat and to Ghangaria by Bus and 13 Km.
    • DAY 5 : Ghangaria to Valley of Flower and back 4 + 4 km trek.
    • DAY 6 : Ghangaria to Hemkund and back 5 + 5 km trek.
    • DAY 7 : Ghangaria to Govindghat and to Badrinath 14 km trek and Bus journey of 25 km.
    • DAY 8 : Badrinath to Vasudhara and back 8 + 8 KM trek.
    • DAY 9 : Badrinath to Rishikesh 300km full day Bus journey.
    • DAY10 : Check out after breakfast .

    Triennial Elections of Youth Hostels Association of India
    Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) is pleased to inform that it had Triennial Election of National Council on 4th December, 2011.
    Dr. Harish K. Saxena relinquished the post of National Chairman after serving for 26 years in the same position. He was the only National Office Bearer since the inception of the movement in India in 1949 who served as the National Chairman's for such a long term. Under his leadership, movement was flourished not only at urban areas but at the rural areas also. Dr Saxena is the first non-European to serve as President, International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), U.K. for a record 8 years continuously.
